If you think the answer is 'communicate more', you're missing the point

When I sit down with clients eager to accelerate digital transformation, one of the first suggestions I hear is that increasing communication will solve for change management.

While I always applaud their efforts to put communication first, and while I still believe it’s an essential component of the change management process - it is rarely a solution on its own, and without clarity, alignment, and intent, it can sometimes do more harm than good.

Why is this the case? The issue is rarely volume, but instead a myriad of misalignments, inconsistencies, and gaps in translation that lead to these downstream problems:

• Messages are too high level and lack context

• Leaders interpret them differently because they are not aligned

• Managers are not equipped to translate them

• Employees hear something completely different

Of course, the ultimate goal is shared understanding, that requires clear positioning, consistent leadership alignment and translation at every level. Instead of asking “did we communicate enough?” ask your employees if the communication actually made sense to them.

At Vision Communications, we bring deep expertise in change management and strategic communications—supporting both large-scale transformations and targeted initiatives that need to land with clarity and impact. We don’t just help you communicate more; we help you communicate in a way that aligns leaders, equips managers, and resonates with employees. And when you’re ready, we partner with you to shape your program into a memorable internal brand—one that reflects your culture, reinforces your strategy, and drives real adoption where it matters most.
